Lettuce wrapped Turkey Burger

Lettuce wrapped Turkey Burger

I have to write this recipe down before I forget it.  It’s not complicated and only takes a little extra prep work.  Yes it’s a Turkey Burger but it has a BBQ flair and some veggies tucked in for flavor and added moisture.  Using 100% Ground Turkey Breast is fine but just be careful not to over cook because they can dry out, or use part dark meat for a little add insurance.

BBQ Turkey Spinach Burger (more of a guideline than a recipe

  • 2# Ground Turkey meat
  • 1 pck frozen spinach, chopped, defrosted and squeezed dry
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped and sauteed till soft
  • 3 Tablespoons Your favorite BBQ sauce,  homemade or store bought
  • salt and pepper to season

That’s it just squish together and divide and shape into 8 burgers.  Preheat grill or saute pan over medium heat.  Oil lightly  and cook about 4-5 minutes per side, or till cooked through.  Serve on a Whole Wheat bun or In and Out style with leafy green leaf lettuce, shaved red onion, ripe tomatoes and your favorite condiments.  I made a quick Roasted Red pepper BBQ sauce but blending a few roasted peppers with a touch of BBQ sauce.  It’s a little messy but oh so good.

Any of you west coasters probably are familiar with the independant burger chain In and Out(www.in-n-out.com  ) where they offer a bunless burger on their secret menu,  aka “protein style”
